Step-by-Step
Data Management
Overview
The Data Management window shows us the location and the state of the data following capture, as well as information on the camera calibration and threshold files. The Data Management window is essentially a reflection of the file/directory hierarchy under the directory that the capture database is referencing (e.g. D:\MoCapData\) and therefore edits under the file/directory will be reflected here
Warning: It is important that for any of the levels you do not use any of the special characters (\ / < > : " | $ -) and especially a space; the special characters will be rejected automatically, but the space will cause issues in some areas of Vicon Blade (but not all). Therefore you should use regular characters (upper/lower case), and underscores (_) only (i.e. no spaces, even if they are accepted in the Data Management section.
It is suggested you avoid everything except regular characters
In addition, project, capture day, and session names should not be longer than 30 characters.
Project
The "Project" level (indicated by a small green 'P' symbol) is top level and can be used for Individuals, Groups, or Special Events (it should not be used for individual days). It is advised that you use a meaningful name that will enable you and others to understand the owner (i.e. use a unique and understandble identifier). Good examples would be first and last name, or first initial and last name "CJOSLIN", "SPLIGHTNINGGROUP". This directory is should be labelled according to the project and not the capture subject or day (unless you are doing your own capture of yourself).
Add a New Project- Scroll to the last project on the list
- RMB → New → Project
Capture Day
The "Capture Day" level should follow the same guidelines; reverse the date order so that it is easy to sort. In this case, YEARMONTHDAY, e.g. 20151025 for the 25th of October 2015
Tip: The Capture Day is automatically incremented when a new day is added; therefore you should try and keep with the date ordering provided; if the last directory is 20151025 then the next directory will be automatically labelled 20151026.
Add a New Capture Day- Select the Project, just created
- RMB → New → Capture Day
Session
The session is the group of captures, therefore it can be the name of the person being captured (referred to as the Subject), or something particular about the session - e.g. WalkSequences, Fighting, etc.
Add a New Session- Select the Capture Day, just created
- RMB → New → Session
Warning: Unfortunately there is a bug in Blade that doesn't allow you to select the created session; the easiest way around this is to create Default session, called Default. Then select (double click) your original session (Note: make sure you follow this step
- Select the Capture Day, just created
- RMB → New → Session
- Name the session "Default" (without quotes)
- Double Click on the original Session
