Step-by-Step

Introduction

This section presents a step-by-step guide to capturing data from the Optical Motion Capture; below you will see a diagram outlining the stages of the motion capture, which takes you to areas of the software. If you are looking for help on a particular section of the software, with a one-to-one correspondence, see ViconIQ -> Tabs

Step-by-Step Overview

Before the Vicon system is switched on it is important to remove all reflective items from the room. Some reflective items are easier to see in Vicon, but in order to make this job easier it's best to eliminate the most obvious items:

  • Retroreflective Items - Jackets, trousers, and shoes that have reflective patches on them (to be better seen in the dark) will cause problems for the Vicon system as it is this reflective material that is the same as the material used for the markers
  • Reflective Items - Other reflective items such as mirrors, jewelry, watches, etc, should also be stowed away - they might not always cause problems because they are not retroreflective, but they can during certain portions of the capture create issues
  • Active Light Sources - Using optical mice should be avoided as the light they produce is similar to the reflection from a marker (these are often referred to as "active markers")
