Step-by-Step
Marker Placement
Putting on the Suit
The capture subject should put on the suit; it is important that the suit fits well - in general as tight as it can be comfortable. Trousers/Skirts should not be worn under the MoCap trousers (but underwear MUST be worn) and nothing more than a t-shirt (or equivalent) should be worn under the top. Use velcro strips to keep the upper and lower parts of the suit fitting well and to tighten areas around the hips, legs, etc. - the suit should not move
Putting on the Markers
Marker placement is dependent on the template being used, click on the corresponding template to get a PDF placement chart. Each chart includes the placement of three marker locations (described below) and the number of markers expected - keep track of this number.
Note: The marker placement corresponds to the skeleton template - if we change the template, we need to change the marker placement
- ViconTrainingFullBody_Blade.vst (45 Markers, No Fingers)
- Note #1: Markers on the hand should go between the knuckles (index/middle, ring/pinkie)
- Note #2: Markers on the chest should go at the top of the suit (near the zipper), and on the sternum
- Note #3: Markers on the hips should go on the hip bones (feel to locate)
- Note #4: Markers on feet (3/side) and knuckles (2/side) should be of the smaller type, and the rest should be the larger type
Marker Locations
There are three marker locations we should be concerned about (1) Rotation Points, (2) Along a Bone, (3) Specific Location. Care needs to be taken when placing the marker, otherwise it may end up giving a bad track
- Rotation Point - A rotation point is where the marker is places along the axis of rotation (elbow, ankle, and knee); the only exception is the wrist where it should be placed on top of the wrist (like a watch). For rotation points there should be minimal translation when a joint moves, only rotation
- Along a Bone - A bone in this case is considered to be a cylinder, the marker can be anywhere around the radius of the cylinder and anywhere along its length. In general though try and use the midpoint and a position around the radius that gives good view to the camera and doesn't occlude other markers
- Specific Location - The specific location means that within reason the marker should be as shown in the diagram, too much variance will cause problems with posture and identification
Note: It is important that the subject keeps the suit on for the entire duration of the capture session. If the suit is removed, even if the markers are placed the same, the capture may not work, or it will not work well
